A Level: All the above texts with ‘Hamlet’, Poetry of Philip Larkin and coursework essay (free choice of texts).
How is it assessed?

Through external examination and 3000 word coursework essay. Open text examinations.

Commitment to wide reading, ability to sustain an argument and write fluently in English.
What entry requirements are there to study this course?
GCSE in English Language and /or Literature at grade C or above. Equivalent qualification acceptable.
What is the course useful for?
A qualification in English is widely acceptable whatever the university course. Medical schools welcome English A level as proof of fluency in the language and a wide academic interest.
Any other information
English Literature is not only a valid and widely recognised academic discipline, it is also a useful way of maintaining and improving standards of writing, reading and speaking in English.
