What do we cover in the course?
Key syllabus elements
The IGCSE Information and Communication Technology syllabus offers a course containing a combination of theoretical and practical studies focussing on the ability to use common software applications, including:
- Word processing
- Spreadsheets
- Databases
- Interactive presentations
- Electronic mail
- Website design
How is it assessed?
Key assessment elements
ICT is assessed through two practical examinations and one theory paper. Both Practical exams are 2 ½ hours each. The practical exams together carry a weighting of 60%.
The written exam is 2 hours long and carries a weighting of 40%.
Key skills required
- basic understanding of how email and the Internet can be used to gather and communicate information
- Basic knowledge of the text formatting features in word processing applications
Other information
Students will enjoy this course because it will enable them to develop practical skills that will be of immediate value to their other GCSE subjects and further education.
Any other information
The Government has recently revised the syllabus and mark schemes for English Language. These are far more rigorous than in the past. Unless students are prepared to read widely and become independent learners, the benchmark Grade C can be difficult to achieve.
